Crookham Rovers U15 Youth match report

SUPER SIX!

Rovers played out their final league game away v Shelton Athletic at the weekend.

After the long journey up the M25 to what seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, we found the home of Shelton.

It was always going to be a tough game for Crookham Rovers, as once again the team found themselves with only 11 players and no subs. Undeterred, the team started brightly and soon found themselves one up through a great header from James Baxter 1-0. Relentless pressure from Rovers soon saw them add a second through a very neat finish from Ethan Smith, 2-0. Shelton then started to find some space and started to play some good football of their own. There was no way through the rock solid defence of Rovers though, as every time they got near the Rover’s goal, they ended up disappointed by some great last ditch tackle or towering headed clearance. When Shelton did find a way through they were once again thwarted by Alex Rolph’s excellent goalkeeping.

Half time: Shelton 0 - 2 Rovers

The second half started well for Rovers and an early corner was turned in at the near post by Cavan Atkinson, 3-0. More Rover’s pressure was starting to show on the faces of Shelton and you felt there was no way back for them from here. A great run from James down the right ended with a great ball into the area, where a grateful Sam whitehead turned the ball in from close range, 4-0. Rovers were in no mood to sit back and looked determined to add to their tally. Ryan Suckling then struck with a well taken free kick from 22 yards, 5-0. A scrappy passage of play then followed as the game started to draw to a close. There was just time for one more goal as Lewis Wall received the ball on the half way line, he then ran straight for goal down the left and rode two challenges to score a great individual goal.

Final score: Shelton Athletic 0 - 6 Crookham Rovers Youth

A fantastic team effort today and a great way to finish the season.

Every single player has played their part this season, so well done to Alex Rolph, Ross Ewen, Ryan Suckling, Cavan Atkinson, Harry Freeman (captain), Ethan Smith, Scott Armsworth, James Baxter, Jack Selby, Luke Hollis, Lewis Visioli, Lewis Wall, Jack Dean, Sam Whitehead and Dionis Pipero.
