Crookham Rovers U23s move second with victory over Spartans

Crookham Rovers U23s capped off their league campaign with a crucial 2-0 home win against Simply Soccer Spartans, a result that sees them leapfrog their opponents into second place in the Aldershot and District Football League U23s Division.

The visitors, who started the day in second spot, needed a result to stay ahead, but Rovers produced a disciplined performance to take all three points.

After a goalless first half, Craig Rush broke the deadlock, calmly slotting home from a superb move down the right and a Ben Scarborough cross. Kial Elliott then celebrated in style as he secured the three points, finishing with great style from distance, sending the home support wild.

Rovers' final-day triumph means Spartans must now face third-placed Ash United in their final fixture, while Ash still have two games remaining to try and claim a second place finish.

"It could all come down to goal difference in the fight for second place - so I had to give it the big celebration," said Elliott.

Reflecting on the team's success, Crookham Rovers manager Andrew Barber added: “I’m incredibly proud of the whole squad in what has been our first season at U23s level. The players have shown great commitment and quality throughout, and to finish near the top of the table, having done the double over the Spartans, is a testament to their hard work.”

Although their league campaign is now complete, Rovers still have plenty to play for, with matches remaining in three separate cup competitions. With momentum on their side, they will be looking to add silverware to what has already been a strong debut season at this level.
