Crookham Rovers U23s secure 5-3 Win Over Alton Tornadoes

Crookham Rovers U23s secure 5-3 Win Over Alton Tornadoes

Crookham Rovers U23s put in an attacking display to claim a 5-3 victory over Alton U23s in a fast-paced encounter at the Exclusive Networks Stadium in Alton.

The match, originally set to be played at Crookham’s home ground, was reversed due to a waterlogged pitch at Cody Sports & Social Club, but that didn’t stop the visitors from taking all three points.

Alton struck first, but Craig Rush quickly made his mark, scoring twice to put Rovers ahead - his first goals since joining the club. Alton hit back to level before half-time with a penalty, setting up a tense second half.

Thomas King restored Crookham’s lead at 3-2, with a well-taken header, only for Alton to equalise again. However, Ibrahim Yetik then headed a cross from the wing to put Rovers back in front before Rush completed his hat-trick to seal the win - the product of some superb build-up play, starting from the back and working through midfield with precision passing.

Stand-in goalkeeper Jake Bailey produced a solid performance between the sticks, while centre-back Jamie Lavender was a rock in defence, putting in a tireless shift to help secure the result.

Speaking after the match, Crookham Rovers U23s manager Andrew Barber praised his side’s teamwork and determination. “After a slow start, it was an all-round performance,” he said. “The lads showed great character, and the way we moved the ball for a couple of the goals was brilliant to see. Craig getting his first goals for the club was a big moment, but this was a real team effort.”

The win gives Rovers a crucial boost as they continue their campaign in the top half of the table.
