Crookham Rovers U23s reach Eric Perrin Salver semi-final with commanding win over AFC Wellesley

Crookham Rovers U23s booked their place in the Eric Perrin Salver Trophy semi-finals with a confident 3-0 win against AFC Wellesley from the Aldershot & District Football League's  Senior Division.

On a sunny afternoon hampered by a biting wind and a rough, uneven pitch, Rovers adapted well to difficult conditions to take control of the quarter-final clash.

Zach Hansell opened the scoring late in the first half with a brilliant solo effort, capitalising on a defensive error he created through relentless pressing. He then rounded the goalkeeper and a covering defender to calmly slot home.

Jake Bailey doubled the lead early in the second half, latching onto a looping pass before finishing clinically.

A contentious offside decision denied Hansell a second, but he eventually got his brace, finding the net again to seal a convincing 3-0 victory.

Tony Barnes had the chance to add a fourth from the penalty spot, but the AFC Wellesley keeper produced a stunning save to deny him.

Crookham Rovers U23s will now face Alton Tornadoes in the semi-final.

Speaking after the match, Rovers manager Andrew Barber said: "I’m incredibly proud of the lads today. They dealt with a tricky pitch, a strong wind, and a very capable opponent.

"The work rate, focus, and togetherness on display were outstanding. I'm thrilled for the team, in it's first season in the U23s Division, to be in the semi-final, but we know the job’s not done yet. We’ll keep pushing and give it everything we’ve got."
